The Committee of Awesomeness, a Global Connections Inc employee committee, hosted Flap Jack Friday to raise money for the Don Bosco Center.
Employees were treated to their choice of three buttermilk pancakes with sausage links for $5 or three buttermilk pancakes without the sausage for $3. Committee members cooked the breakfast on-site and other members served hot cakes to employees at their desks the morning of Friday, May 2, 2014.
The breakfast earned the Don Bosco Center $180. Maura Orpin, Executive Director, was thrilled with the donation. Every penny counts to help area senior’s in need.
“We are now up to serving nearly 1,500 people every day, many of whom are very poor and see no one else during their day, except for their food deliverers or the other clients and counselors here,” shared Orpin. “It’s cool that they have formed new families with the people here, some of them not even speaking the same language!”
Global Connections provided the food and staff generously purchased the breakfasts while others made donations to the Kansas City based non-profit that has been teaching English to new Americans for 30 years while also offering recreational activities, meals and programs for seniors 60+ and people with disabilities 18 and over in their Senior Center.
The Committee of Awesomeness is an employee run charity organization. The company provides funding to support the charitable events organized by the volunteers.
