Global Connections Founder Tom Lyons Recognized for Selfless Giving

2014-05-19-12.08 Tom Lyons received the Cadillac Lifetime Achievement Award on May 17, 2014 at a black tie gala held at the Overland Park Convention Center, Overland Park, KS. The first annual award was given by Hendrick Buick GMC Cadillac to honor 10 outstanding Kansas City business leaders.

“The award is for Kansas City business and community leaders who have achieved tremendous business success while possessing the grace and selflessness of giving back to their communities. Our winner are the ‘Who’s Who’ of Kansas City, who have an unparalleled passion for community, family, freedom and faith,” wrote Louis Faller, General Manager of Hendrick Buick GMC Cadillac.

Tom was included with the likes of Major Dan Rooney, a fighter pilot and PGA golf pro who founded Folds of Honor, a non-profit organization that has raised more than $22 million and has awarded more than 5,000 educational scholarships to the family members of soldiers killed or disabled in combat; and Lt. Kelli Bailiff of the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department and 2013 Law Enforcement of the Year officer who has had a hand in solving more than 430 missing children cases.

As a successful business owner and humanitarian, Tom finds it rewarding to give back to the communities where he lives and works. Some of the causes most dear to him include the Guns ‘N Hoses charity boxing event, raising funds for the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund (S.A.F.E.) helping Kansas City area fallen first responder’s families; Hope House, supporting Kansas City’s victims of domestic abuse; Blooming Place for Kids, sending Florida foster kids to camp; and Random Acts of Flowers, recycling wedding and event flowers for Florida hospital patients, just to name a few.

“I am humbled to receive such an honor. I don’t get involved for any kind of recognition. I do it because it’s the right thing to do,” said Tom. “I was surprised to receive such a prestigious award, even more so after hearing what my fellow nominees do to make our world a better place.”

More than 750 area business and community leaders and their guests were in attendance. Bob Ferguson, Global Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Cadillac, presented the awards with Faller and local Fox 4 television news anchor, John Holt.
