We recently shared Marsha C.’s amazing Magnificent Europe river cruise with you. What we didn’t share was what she thought about Avalon Waterways’ Avalon Expression. Before you choose your River Cruise, find out about her experience in this Q and A.
GCI: How would you describe the Avalon Expression ship?
MC: I love the design of the Avalon Suite Ships. The 200 square foot Panoramic Suites have seven-foot wall-to-wall windows which open to create an open-air balcony of sorts. The beds face out towards the floor-to-ceiling windows that open to let fresh air in. The slight slant of the bed makes the bathroom on the other side of the wall bigger than normal bathrooms on a river cruise.
There is a sky deck for sunning and relaxing by the whirlpool, which also boasts an open-air bistro. There are multiple lounges, an open-seating dining room, an Internet corner, a hairdresser and manicurist and a small fitness center. Wi-Fi is free throughout the ship.
GCI: What places should not be missed when onboard the ship?
MC: I enjoyed the Panorama Lounge and the Observation Lounge.
GCI: What activities do you recommend on the ship?
MC: Every day the tour director would have an informative presentation on the next port we would be visiting. Every day there were also various types of presentations in the late afternoon by locals. We had all kinds of enjoyable concerts, talks on local food, wine, the European Union, etc. It was funny to see sometimes, after the presentation the local presenter would hop off of the boat and ride his or her bicycle back home.
GCI: Why should anyone take a river cruise?
MC: For me, river cruising is the perfect way to travel. You are avoiding the crowds of the big ships and you are traveling into areas that you would not be able to see on the big cruise ships while you still have the advantage of unpacking once. River cruising also beats being on a land tour for the same reason.
With the smaller size, you also get to know your fellow passengers and the crew, making for a more relaxing and enjoyable vacation.
GCI: Do you have any advice or recommendations on how to choose a cabin?
MC: There are lower priced cabins that you can book if you are on a limited budget. These cabins are on the lower deck and have two oblong windows at the top of your cabin wall. However, if this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I would highly recommend the Panoramic Suites that Avalon offers. When you are relaxing in your cabin there is nothing like looking out of those floor-to-ceiling windows and feeling the fresh breeze come in while cruising down the river.
GCI: One final question. How soon should someone book a cabin?
MC: River cruises are very popular right now and with the smaller passenger capacity, I would book it as soon as possible.
I don’t know about you, but I sure do want to experience an Avalon River Cruise sometime soon! You can book your very own Avalon River Cruise from Marsha, just give her a call at (855) 999-7654.
